Humans are one of the most intelligent species living in the world. They have the capability to adapt to the environment according to their needs. During her lifetime, a female goes through a number of physical changes. She attains puberty earlier than males, then she is different during pregnancy and post-pregnancy period is also full of bodily developments. During all these transformations, a female body is in a constant need for healthy and nutritious diet. The diet is necessary because the female body becomes a bit weak from within, once she starts with her menstrual cycle or if she is pregnant or even if she has delivered the baby.
Another similar yet important stage in a woman’s life is when she achieves menopause. When the release of the hormone estrogen by the ovaries decreases by a great extent, then we say that the female has got her menopause. It is actually a stage where the female is unable to produce eggs and thus is not fit anymore for reproduction. Generally, a female reaches this stage in her late 40s or early 50s. The decline or absence of this hormone means a lot to the female body in terms of energy levels, memory, bone health, heart health etc.
Menopause, a word many women feel anxious about, is the natural transition her experiences with age where her normal menstrual cycle stops and certain biological changes occur. It is the period when a woman ceases to be fertile as her ovaries no longer produce eggs. However, cessation of monthly cycles does not necessarily mean menopause. A woman who has undergone hysterectomy or is suffering from some other medical issues will not be having periods but will not be menopausal.
Biologically, a woman goes through three stages in her life
I. The first, her pre-menstrual stage starting from birth to puberty;
II. Then comes the second stage starting from attaining puberty through her reproductive years
III. The final and third stage which comes with the end of her fertility
Menopause is a milestone in the life of a woman as puberty was. Here we must clearly understand that a woman needs to take care of both her physical as well as her mental well-being during the pre-menopause and menopause stage. This period which lasts for some time, is difficult for some and a woman needs to have a supportive and sensitive environment to make the transition easy. However, no two women experiences are the same. But here it must be reiterated that menopause is not a disease, only a natural change which must be taken as normal.
Menopause occurs between the ages of 41 to 55, depending on a number of factors and is considered complete when a woman has missed her monthly cycles for a continuous period of 12 months. Symptoms may vary and their intensity may make normal life difficult for some; however, they can be lessened with medications and lifestyle changes.
In other words, menopause means a cessation of the monthly menstrual cycle. Menopause means end of fertility. This can happen to a woman naturally or after any major surgery or after chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
